A new level of control can be achieved when you click the wrench symbol on the upper right corner, Account Settings and then Blocking (on the left). Here you can: 

(1) Block People, that is, close fans, closer fans, the closest fans. aka stalkers. Or when Unfriending is not an option 

(2) Block App Invites from compulsive inviters. Some people just can't help but… invite… Well, not anymore 

(3)Block Event Invites, to keep those party animals that keep inviting you for breakfast, lunch and dinner every day of the week

(4) Block apps! You can either type in the name of app and BANG! Alternatively, you can block the app when you get an invitation to download an app. Just click on the x that appears when you hover the mouse over the request.
